Ski tour participation requirements: Have a good attitude

  1. If you have experience with any kind of outdoor activity, you know that sometimes it can be a bust. Meaning: the conditions aren’t good, or the weather isn’t good, or it turns out to be a spot that wouldn’t even make your “B” list. But the outdoors aren't like Burger King: you can't have it your way. No one can guarantee it’s going to be a magical day. So let’s just relax and enjoy what nature has given us. And if you are a whiner and/or complainer be prepared to be left behind tied to a tree and covered in honey.

  2. If you have experience with any kind of group activity, you know that sometimes there are people who just don’t like to be part of a group. But group activity also isn't like Burger King: you can't have it your way. If you are a proverbial “A-type” or “control freak” who has to be in charge and dominate others; who thinks you’re on a Navy Seal operation; who resents any boundaries placed on your behavior – then: you need to put a lid on it, relax, and think about just enjoying the company of other people. If this doesn't work for you then remember that skiing by yourself is pretty fun too, and then you can be in control to your heart’s content.

  3. If you have experience traveling with others in the bush, you know that some people think they have a “good sense of direction” or “don't need to use a map.” There's no Burger King analogy here: those folks are almost always very wrong. The organizer will stop from time to time to consult a map, compass or GPS because they have spent enough time traveling in the bush to at least know when it's necessary. So again, just relax and so on and be patient with this, as well as with evaluating terrain and other necessary safety measures.

  4. Lastly, as noted elsewhere, we have a strict “no jerks and no assholes” policy. Adhering to this is really not that hard: don't be a jerk or an asshole. If you behave like a jerk or an asshole towards others rest assured that you will simply be kicked out of the group.
